China Industry Spotlight: Software and Web Development

In today’s information world, the web is king. Those who build the kingdom, a.k.a. web developers, automatically join a worldwide noble family and each one has empires of their own which they refer to as their domain. The primary task of these self-made rulers of the web is to create complex technical creations that are easy and simple to use on the front end for the non-expert. Probably the biggest challenge that web developers face is staying on top of the latest trends.

Technology ages fast and is constantly metamorphosing into new areas. However, this also means web developers get to work inside of a world that is constantly on the cutting edge of the latest developments in tech.

Website development requires a slightly different skill set from programming mobile devices, TV, and gaming machines. Before choosing one path and its’ corresponding set of skills, try each one to determine which you prefer. Let’s say you choose web development first. What type of work will you be doing exactly? Well, if you are in China, chances are you might very well be developing an ecommerce site. Ecommerce is HUGE in China and will only continue to grow in future years. China desperately needs more web developers to not only meet demand but also to take these innumerable ecommerce sites to the next level.

Becoming an expert in this industry can only happen with experience and practice. Some web developers study their craft in college. Others study on their own. This industry is one of the few that almost never judges you based on your educational degrees. The proof of your ability is in your work portfolio and is clear to all. The more experience you can get via internships or other opportunities, the faster you can build your portfolio. If you are an excellent problem solver and enjoy watching your domains flourish and grow, then software development might be the career for you.
